Cafe bar Umbrella started to work in the City shopping center in Skopje (GTC) where the employees are persons with a certain disability. This is one of the few cases where the idea is encouraged by the owner of a locale that persons with disabilities work in a catering facility. The Faculty of Philosophy is involved in the realization of this project.
One of the employees is young Philip. He says he feels nice when he works and that he is more respected among people.
At the opening of the cafe bar attended by a large number of citizens who supported this project.

 The city centre has been referred to as “one huge restaurant”. It is more or less true because you can find a restaurant, café, bar or pub on almost every corner. There are hundreds in the pedestrian zone alone. The people of Skopje enjoy spending time socialising in them. We all wait with anticipation for the restauranteurs to put out their tables and chairs on the streets around about May so that together with the tourists we can sip on a glass of fine wine from the local "Skovin" vineyards or take a cold bottle of the famous "Skopsko" beer and admire the beauty of the surroundings of our beautiful capital. Visitors often ask about the traditional Macedonian cuisine. Naturally, we have special Macedonian traditional restaurant. The land of sun is the land of the tastes. Macedonia is the land of the gourmands and true fans of a good meal. From appetizers, main dishes, salads to desserts, Macedonian cuisine can offer numerous traditional dishes for every taste.

shopskaThe traditional Macedonian cuisine combines Balkan and Mediterranean characteristics, inherited largely from Turkish tastes that prevailed during long centuries of Ottoman rule, then our neighboring Greece, and to some extend Italian and Austrian cuisines, which makes it a heterogeneous. The traditional Macedonian cuisine is reflecting Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences and it is noted for the diversity and quality of its dairy products, wines and alcoholic beverages such as rakija. The primary food on the Macedonian menu that stews, is mixture of meat and vegetables cooked by simmering. Stews are prepared spicy, combined with roux (a thickening agent), and always eaten with bread. Other main staples are feta cheese; roasted banana peppers; and zelnik, a flat pastry with cheese, leek, or spinach filling. Supper is the most important meal of the day, often eaten less than an hour before retiring for the night. You can find all of these traditional meals and many more in any of the listed restaurants.
